About Mahogany Wood

The mahogany wood at scientific encyclopedia is Swietenia Macrophylla comes from sustainable plantations. Mahogany does not originate from indonesian tropical forests. The settlers brought the seeds 400 years ago from Honduras. They started growing Mahogany to build their houses.
Years later, Indonesians started using these hardwoods for making carvings and furniture.
Today mahogany grows foremost on plantations. The government controls and regulates all wood cutting. Small privately owned and well-manage plantations are coming up, and we do our best to support them in the wise use of their timbers.
